Scoops, Spoons, and Spatulas
Tools designed to scrape, manipulate, chop, or transfer materials; products are available in several sizes, material compositions, etc.
Scoops, spoons, and spatulas help with mixing, scraping, and other tasks related to transferring materials and samples from one place to another.
These tools are used to transfer samples or chemicals from their original containers to weighing paper, weighing boats, weighing bottles, weighing funnels, or other vessels or containers for weighing.
Reusable products are typically made of stainless steel, which is resistant to heat and cold, acids, bases, solvents, and other chemicals. Metal products may also have permanent or removable wooden or polymer handles and may also be coated in PTFE or plastic for greater non-reactivity. Types of stainless steel spatulas include:
- Microspatulas: Thin, pointed ends help to transfer materials to small tubes or microplates
- Trough-shaped spatulas: Usually have one rounded and one pointed end; can be used to dislodge or loosen materials in a container
- Double-ended spatulas: May have ends of equal or slightly different sizes and shapes
- One flat and one bent end
- One rounded and one tapered end
- One rounded and one scoop or spoon-shaped end
Disposable plastic and paper products are also available. They can help eliminate the potential for cross-contamination that may occur with poorly cleaned reusable spatulas. Disposable products are also ideal for performing lyophilization or handling lyophilized products.
Some products have a V-shape and a pointed end. These are used to pierce paper or plastic wrapping to collect samples of a product or food material for pre-production or post-production quality control testing.

This sample scoop PharmaScoop has been developed in order to meet the high requirements of the pharmaceutical industry, such as those contained in the FDA regulations.
Like all samplers for the pharmaceutical industry, they are made of stainless steel AISI 316 without edges, crevices or undercuts in which sample residues could collect and contaminate subsequent samples. The highly polished inner and outer surfaces of the scoop therefore meet all the requirements for GMP compliance in production and sampling.

Volumetric and dosing spoons can be used to measure small amounts of powder, granulates and liquids exactly and dose them precisely. For precise measuring, excess medium is stripped off the upper edge of the spoon. The content volume is engraved on the handle.
The flat front edge of the volumetric spoon is ideal for picking up medium from the bottom of the container or for getting into the corners of the container, thus allowing for good emptying of small remaining amounts. The flat base makes it possible to set the volumetric spoon down without spilling the content.
The disposable dosing spoon is suitable for use as a sample spoon for taking small sample quantities. Since the plastic volumetric spoon was developed for single use, there is no cleaning and the possibility of cross-contamination and impurities is excluded.

The Grainger 14D038 is a 14-inch diameter, 3/8-inch thick, type 1 plastic cutting disc made by Weiler. It has a maximum speed rating of 13,300 RPM and features fiberglass reinforcement for durability. This general purpose cutting and grinding disc is designed for use on metals. It has a depressed center grinding wheel shape and comes in packs of 25. The product dimensions are 14" diameter x 3/8" thickness with a 7/8" arbor hole.
